At PCHS, the staff is collaborating to grow our capacity to facilitate classroom environments that prioritize positive student-teacher and student-student relationships and community building. One of our strategies for this is the use of restorative circles. Today, Spanish 1 students are engaging in a modified version of the “21 Shoulders” circle activity to practice counting up and down in Spanish!

Aiden Ozias, Pinckney grad and current student at Eastern Michigan, built these beautiful picnic tables for us as his Eagle Scout project. Thank you, Aiden!

AP Statistics students went on an adventurous Problem Trail around the school. Each correct problem solved led them to a new location and problem to tackle. Teams raced to discover the correct solutions and problem sequence to win the prize! A great way to get in some Fitbit points and to review!

“If we feel psychologically safe and connected, we are better learners.” Dr. Marc Brackett, Yale Professor

Today, Seniors spent Advisory in the Auditorium with Counselors to learn more about Parchment and the Common App and to get logged in at parchment.com. Ask your Senior about these things and support them in their next steps!

“A circle is a versatile restorative practice that can be used proactively, to develop relationships and build community or reactively, to respond to wrongdoing, conflicts and problems. Circles give people an opportunity to speak and listen to one another in an atmosphere of safety, decorum and equality. The circle process allows people to tell their stories and offer their own perspectives (Pranis, 2005).” -Defining Restorative by Ted Wachtel, International Institute for Restorative Practices
