Junior, Seth Wuckert, got to put his passion on display this week in Mr. Jerome’s class, sharing what is a growing museum of his own original wartime artifacts ranging from WWI through Vietnam. So cool!

New Tech students planted tulips in our peace garden in the fall, and they are starting to bloom! It was so nice to enjoy them today.

In U.S. History, 9th graders have been analyzing multiple aspects of the Vietnam War from the beginning of the conflict in 1954 to troops arriving in 1965. Yesterday, students dove into music of the war and listened to songs that both were for and against America’s efforts in Vietnam.  Students will follow up with analysis questions and discuss in class the impact of music in the Vietnam War.

A big shout-out to Mrs. Elmy and our Positive Peer Influence (PPI) students who have been helping to beautify our walls in a way that reinforces the message that every Pirate is cared for, should feel empowered just by being here, and that they’re being prepared to succeed.

Our Honors ELA 9 students have been engaging in a month-long media literacy unit in partnership with a team from the University of Toledo. Today’s “front porch” big picture question, “What motivates individual people to engage in the decision making of their community?”

Today is Suicide Awareness Day as a part of our student-led U Matter Week here at PCHS. Senior, Olivia Townsend, put her heart and soul into this mural as her New Tech Senior Capstone passion project. It was unveiled today and is such a beautiful addition to our building. A quote subtlety tucked into the top of the mural, “Suicide doesn’t end the chances of life getting worse; it eliminates the possibility of it getting any better.”

We’re piloting a Global Citizenship course this semester with newly developed curriculum intended to prepare students to be active, engaged, informed participants and decision-makers in our community, our country and our world. Today’s focus was on understanding implicit bias and its impact on people based on their social identities. Kudos to Mr. Clary and our Global Citizenship students for digging deep into this learning process!

AP Bio students followed a genetic transformation protocol today which allowed for bacteria to take in a gene from a jellyfish. This gene causes the bacteria to glow! Students followed up with an inquiry investigation that led the groups down different paths based on their interests. #deeperlearning
