Hello PCHS Students & Families!

The school year begins in just a few short days, and we are so excited to dive back into teaching and learning with you! The following information is intended to provide both our in-person and Pinckney Virtual Academy (PVA) learners with key resources and information you'll need to feel prepared to engage in your learning experience with ease and to know where to go if questions arise.

For ALL Students & Parent/Guardians, both In-Person and PVA:

  • Brightspace Learning Management System - Students should be checking their school email regularly at this point and keeping their eyes out for an email from Michigan Virtual which will include a login to Brightspace, the learning management system (LMS) we will be using this year. This login process will prompt students to create their own password. Students will log-in to this LMS for their coursework, whether they are in-person or PVA. IF you do not receive your login before the first day of school, don't worry. It will come. Michigan Virtual is working 24-hours/day to get students' accounts set-up and to add students to each of our teachers' courses. We will be ready to start the year on Day 1, logins or not, and we will be working diligently to ensure every student has access to the courses they need as efficiently as possible.

  • Student Grades this Year - Students’ grades will be housed in Brightspace this year, with a few exceptions in the CTE department which will remain in MiStar. For parents/guardians to view grades, you will need to have your student(s) show you their Brightspace courses and gradebooks and/or email their teachers directly. End-of-marking period grades will still show up in MiStar for transcript purposes.

For Pinckney Virtual Academy Students & Parents/Guardians Only:

  • PVA Overview & Tools Document - This document is intended to be a one-stop-shop for PCHS PVA students and families. It includes key resources, tools, and information you will need to engage in your virtual learning experience. Please read this document in its entirety before the start of school. The information in this document, including the first week of school schedule and teachers' Zoom links, will help you to be fully ready to dive into your learning experience on September 8th!

Please feel free to reach out to Julia McBride, Director of High School Instruction & New Tech High (jmcbride@pinckneypirates.org), with questions or needs related to Pinckney Virtual Academy, the Brightspace LMS, if a question isn't yet answered in the PVA Overview doc that we can clarify, etc. We are optimistic that our strategy for teaching and learning this year will set us up to be ready for anything while maintaining a high quality, rigorous learning experience for every Pirate. We are committed to learning along with you and adapting to ensure this remains true across the school year.

Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!
