This March, Navigator Elementary is turning the page on a new community-wide tradition. Today marks the official launch of the One District, One Book initiative, a program designed to foster a shared love of reading by connecting K-5 students, staff, and families through a single story.
The selection for this year’s journey is "Legend of Lotus Island: The Guardian Test" by Newbery Honor author Christina Soontornvat.
A Journey Beyond the Classroom
Throughout the month of March, every K-5 family at Navigator Elementary will dive into the mystical world of the Mist Islands. The program aims to bridge the gap between school and home, encouraging parents and guardians to engage in a shared reading experience with their children.
Building a Community of Readers
"The goal of One District, One Book is simple: to get everyone talking about the same story at the same time," said the Navigator Elementary Literacy Committee. "When an entire school community reads the same book, it creates a unique bond and a vibrant atmosphere where literacy is celebrated as a shared joy."
Navigator Elementary invites all families to share their reading progress on social media using the school's official hashtags to showcase the "Guardians" in action.
