Dear Farley Hill Families,

Welcome to our new school year! I hope that this finds you and your families well, and that you were able to enjoy some happy times together this summer. We are super excited to welcome everyone back to school.

Last Thursday, the PCS Board of Education approved the first day of the school year to be Tuesday, September 8.  This change from August 24 to September 8 allows each building necessary time to prepare for the school year with incorporating the safety guidelines outlined for Phase 4 in the MISAFE Schools: Michigan’s 2020-21 Return to School Roadmap.  Teachers will also use this time to engage in multiple sessions of learning, collaborating and planning for implementing best instructional practices for both virtual and in person  instruction with recommended safety precautions.

I will post a welcome back video message on our school website, in addition to sending you a link via email in the coming weeks. This message will include information about the beginning of the year operations, including: drop off and pick up procedures, student medications, health safety procedures, family engagement, student assessments, breakfast and lunch plans.  One change you will need to know right away is during Phase 4, our school buildings are closed for families/visitors, unless there is an extenuating circumstance/emergency.

We are preparing for a K-3 virtual Open House to be held on Wednesday, September 2. Classroom teachers will host a live Zoom session where they will show you their classrooms, share information about daily routines, and present an overview of their curriculum. Some time will be set aside for families to ask questions at the end of the teacher presentation.

September 2 Virtual Open House Schedule:

KR/K and First grade  -  5:00-5:30 pm

Second and Third grade - 5:30-6:00 pm

Navigator Fourth grade - 6:00-6:30 pm

Fifth grade -  6:30-7:00 pm

Sixth grade - 7:00-7:30 pm

While teachers will be sending you the Zoom meeting invitation, please save the date and times in advance. Sessions will be recorded so that families who are not able to attend can watch and listen at a time that is convenient.

This is most certainly a new and different beginning of the year for all of us, and we are most appreciative of your amazing support. We will be sure to communicate with you often as we get closer to the first day of school. In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions that we can help you with.

Take care and have a great day!

Yvonne
